The Eighth and Final Season of ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ to Premiere August 12

The entire gang is returning to the Nine-Nine in August. According to TVLine, NBC has announced that the eighth and final season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine will premiere on Thursday, August 12.

The series, which has been off the air for over a year due to the global pandemic and nationwide protests following the death of George Floyd, will have a shortened eighth season, via TVLine. Brooklyn Nine-Nine‘s executive producer, Dan Goor (writer, Parks and Recreation) expressed that despite the challenges the show has faced, he “so thankful to NBC and Universal Television for allowing [them] to give these characters and our fans the ending they deserve” (TVLine).

When fans last saw their favorite precinct members, Jake Peralta (played by Andy Samberg, Saturday Night Live) was racing to the hospital to meet his wife, Amy Santiago (played by Melissa Fumero, Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K), as she delivered the couple’s first child. The season seven finale aired on April 23, 2020, via TVLine.

Season eight’s promotional trailer reminds fans of the series’ famous heist episodes, the thousands of times Jake’s said “cool”, as well as all the titles of sex tapes the characters have created over the show’s eight year run. The trailer also shows a sneak peak of new parents Jake and Amy returning to the precinct wearing shower caps.

According to TVLine, the final season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine will consist of ten episodes. The first two will premiere at 8 and 8:30 PM on the evening of August 12, with the remaining eight episodes will air similarly at 8 and 8:30 PM in the following weeks. However, new episodes will not be airing in four consecutive weeks, as they will fill in the programming gap on the Thursdays when NBC is not airing Thursday Night Football.
