Great news X-Files fans, Ryan Coogler’s (Eyes of Wakanda, Hurricane Katrina: Race Against Time) X-Files reboot has been picked up by Hulu. According to Deadline, Onyx Collective and 20th Television will bring us back into the bizarre world of Chris Carter’s (Queens for a Day, The X-Files) classic series.
For those who don’t know, X-Files is a series about two FBI agents who work for a division dedicated to investigating the unexplained. According to Deadline, Himesh Patel (The Odyssey, Enola Holmes 3) and Danielle Deadwyler (Euphoria, Rooster) are casted to play the two FBI agents who are tasked with understanding the unexplained. Coogler issued this statement regarding his involvement in the series: “I’ve loved The X-Files for a long time, so getting the chance to write and direct the pilot has meant a great deal to me,” said Coogler. “What Chris Carter created is special, and we wanted to honor everything that made the original series connect with so many people while also finding our own way into that world. Danielle and Himesh, along with the rest of our cast, have brought such original perspectives and performances to these characters, and watching that come together has been one of the most rewarding parts of the experience. I couldn’t have asked for better collaborators than my crew, colleagues at Proximity Media and our partners at Onyx Collective and 20th Television. I’m grateful for the trust and support they’ve given us as we take on this new chapter.”
The cast for the new series consists of Amy Madigan (Weapons, Off the Horse), Steve Buscemi (Wild Horse Nine, Don’t Say Good Luck), Lochlyn Munro (Rough Draft, Lola Dust), Ben Foster (The Stunt Driver, Christy), Tantoo Cardinal (Wildwood, Below), Devery Jacobs (Forbidden Fruits, Ark: The Animated Series), Joel Montgrand (Mihnea, Acting Good), and Sofia Grace Clifton (The Uninvited Child, The East Palace).
We will need to keep our eyes peeled for an official trailer, in the meantime you can check out the original series on Hulu and Disney+.
