‘The Regime’: Official Teaser Released Revealing Kate Winslet As The Star

Max has released the official teaser for the limited series titled The Regime. According to Variety, Kate Winslet (Titanic, Avatar: The Way of Water) will be starring in the limited series. The series was formerly known as The Palace.

The tantalizing teaser for the show is shrouded in secrecy, featuring an enigmatic blend of political drama and mystery. The official logline is equally cryptic, only revealing that the series chronicles the events of a single year inside the palace of a contemporary European regime, as it gradually falls apart.

The teaser primarily centers around crucial encounter between Kate Winslet’s chancellor and Martha Plimpton’s (The Goonies, Raising Hope) U.S. emissary. Plimpton’s character delivers a crucial ultimatum: “We need you to demonstrate credibility to us — trustworthiness,” Plimpton’s character says, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

As scenes contradicting her words unfold under her voiceover, Winslet’s character asserts something entirely different. “All we are doing is realizing our dream — our dream of a new Europe, without limits, without cruelty. There are times when one must choose the hardest road. I’ve chosen that road, but I have done so in the name of liberty,” says Winslet’s character.

Also part of the cast is Pippa Haywood (Green Wing, The Brittas Empire), Matthias Schoenaerts (Rust and Bone, The Danish Girl), Karl Markovics (The Counterfeiters, Breathing), Guillaume Gallienne (Me, Myself and Mum, Marie Antoinette), Rory Keenan (The Guard, Reign of Fire), Andrea Riseborough (The Grudge, Oblivion), Louie Mynett (Chemistry of Death, Silent Witness), Hugh Grant (Love Actually, About a Boy), Stanley Townsend (The Libertine, Dangerous Liaisons), Danny Webb (Alien³, Robin Hood), Henry Goodman (Taking Woodstock, Private Parts), and David Bamber (Valkyrie, The Bourne Identity).

Writing, executive producing, and serving as showrunner of the series is Will Tracy (The Menu, Succession). Additional executive producers are Winslet, Stephen Frears (Dangerous Liaisons, Philomena), Tracey Seaward (Philomena, The Queen), and Frank Rich (Succession, Veep). Serving as a co-executive producer is Jessica Hobbs (Answered by Fire, The Crown). Additional writers include Sarah DeLappe (Bodies Bodies Bodies, Cassandra at the Wedding), Seth Reiss (Onion SportsDome, The Menu), Gary Shteyngart (Succession, Super Sad True Love Story), Juli Weiner (Last Week Tonight with John Oliver), and Jen Spyra (Big Time, The Onion Film Standard).

The Regime is set to premiere on Max in 2024, so stay tuned for more details on the limited series.
