Disney+ gave fans a first look at the third Season of their X-Men universe series, X-Men ’97. Brad Winderbaum, head of Marvel television, animation, comics, and franchise, shared the first teaser of the new season, according to Variety.
According to Variety, the teaser opens with an unknown person graffitiing the question “Where are the X-Men?” as the city descends into disorder. Police have sealed off the city, blocking entrances and exits. This leaves the mutants with no way to reach Professor X’s school without designated letters of transit, and without them, they have nowhere to go or stay.
Viewers see a young mutant try to secretly cross the border, but before she makes it, she is caught and labeled a threat. However, just as police take her into captivity, a team of mutants arrives to save her.
The girl asks, “Are they X-Men?” to which they respond, “No, we’re the Brotherhood.”
Storm and Professor X were also featured in the teaser while they drove together and discussed the conflict they were experiencing with the U.S. president. The pair get out of the car, and it is revealed they’re on their way to Gambit and Rogue’s wedding, with Deadpool and She-Hulk as guests.
X-Men ‘97 premiered in 2024. The series continued the storyline from Fox’s 90s cartoon, X-Men: The Animated Series. This cartoon ran from 1992-1997 on Fox Kids. Disney+ renewed the original series after it acquired Fox, introducing a new generation of fans to the animated X-Men.
The second season of X-Men ‘97 ended on Aug. 12. Throughout the season, the X-Men traveled through time to chase the season’s main antagonist, Apocalypse, in their efforts to stop Apocalypse, their enemy, but periodic ally, Magneto. The season also introduced Polaris’ team, X-Factor, a government-authorized rival team, and Cable’s team, X-Force, a rogue team from the future. Finally, Gambit, a beloved character who died in Season 1, was resurrected in Season two as a Horseman of Apocalypse. Rogue, Gambit’s Lover, tries to sacrifice herself to save Gambit, but Nightcrawler offers himself instead, saving the couple. The finale reveals that Mystique killed X-Factor leader Valerie Cooper and took her identity. It also shows Mystique’s human son, Graydon Creed, being elected president of the United States.
