It seems the Marvel Cinematic Universe will soon say goodbye to the devil of Hell’s Kitchen, with Daredevil: Born Again, sooner than anticipated. According to Screenrant, this is not the first instance of the franchise facing cancellation. The original Marvel series met a similar fate, ending early after a brief three-year run. The plot of the new season will follow where the previous one ended, with Matt, played by Charlie Cox (Spider-Man: No Way Home, Stardust) having revealed his identity in court and now imprisoned.
The Defenders will return, featuring Krysten Ritter (Sonic the Hedgehog, Nightbooks) as Jessica Jones, Mike Colter (Evil, Plane) as Luke Cage, and Finn Jones (Game of Thrones, The Visitor) as Danny Rand, all stepping in to protect Hell’s Kitchen in Matt’s absence. Additionally, Élodie Yung (Gods of Egypt, The Hitman’s Bodyguard) will reprise her role as Elektra, with recent footage suggesting she will team up with Matt on his upcoming journey.
In an interview with Screenrant’s Liam Crowley, Matthew Lillard (Five Nights at Freddy’s, Carrie), who joined in the second season as Mr. Charles, shared his reaction to the series cancellation: “Listen, I wish the show would go on. I have deep thoughts about Mr. Charles and where he goes, but that’s for another day. It’s hard to sort of get into now.”
Reported by Screenrant, series alumnus Vincent D’Onofrio (Echo, Hawkeye) gave his own statement about the journey that he and the rest of the cast and crew have had with the series: “We so enjoyed bringing Daredevil: Born Again to you all. You stuck with us and I like to think we stuck with you. We have the final season, season three heading your way next year with some very cool stuff. Much love to all who have been supportive. I love that character Fisk. Always will. Off to another neck of the woods. Meanwhile… Season three is coming!”
While the primary antagonist for Matt and his allies in the third and final season remains undisclosed, viewers can expect an action-packed and satisfying conclusion to the series. Though the show’s ending is bittersweet, fans can stream the first two seasons of Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+ while awaiting the final season’s release in March 2027.
