Sundance Co-Producing Miniseries Starring Maggie Gyllenhaal

Sundance Channel’s first  original drama Rectify is one of this year’s more critically acclaimed shows, and the network has both renewed it for a second season and greenlit another original, the Descendants.  Sundance has also been expanding on co-productions, such as the Jane Campion miniseries Top of the Lake. Now Indiewire reports that Sundance is co-producing a new miniseries, the Honourable Woman.

The series stars Maggie Gyllenhaal.  A brother and sister witnessed their father’s (who was a Zionist arms producer) murder when they were children. Nessa Stein (Gyllenhaal) grows up to take over her father’s company, she turned the company into one that lays high-spec data cabling networks between Israel and the West Bank, and her apparent work on behalf of reconciliation between the Israelis and Palestinians leads to her appointment to the House of Lords, causing international political tension.

This thriller is set in the UK, the US, and the Middle East.  It is directed by Hugo Blick and executive produced by Hugo Blick, Greg Brenman and Polly Hill for the BBC.  The Honourable Woman is being produced by Abi Bach, Eight Rooks and Drama Republic Production.

The 8-part miniseries will air on Sundance Channel in the US and BBC Two in the UK in 2014.
