Orange is the New Black Season 2 Ordered

That’s right–season one has not even debuted yet and Netflix has ordered for another season.

Season 1 of Orange is the New Black premieres on Netflix on July 11.  The series stars Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling) as she is sent to a woman’s prison after her involvement with a drug runner.  The series was created by Weeds‘ Jenji Kohan, based on the memoir by Piper Kerman.

“We’re enormously proud of the brilliant work of Jenji, the cast and the entire production team,” said Kevin Beggs, president of Lionsgate Television Group, to Huffington Post, “and we’re delighted about this early second season renewal. Netflix has been a great partner on this series and we look forward to our continuing collaboration.”

In a statement Vice President of Original Content at Netflix, Cindy Holland, said,“Jenji and her team have produced a phenomenal series and we’re eager to get a second season to our viewers.”

“I am thrilled that Netflix has extended my sentence,” said series creator and executive producer Jenji Kohan.

Netflix has also reportedly been exploring the possibility of more Arrested Development, despite previously downplaying the idea.

According to Huffington Post, Season 1 of Orange Is the New Black will premiere on Netflix in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland and Latin America on July 11 at 3:01 a.m. ET/12:01 A.M. PT.  Meanwhile, Season 2 will begin production later this summer, according to Entertainment Weekly.
