Showtime Adjusts Schedules for ‘Billions,’ ‘Black Monday,’ ‘The Chi,’ and ‘Penny Dreadful: City of Angels’

Adding to the list of television programs affected by the coronavirus, Showtime has provided updates concerning the schedules for its programs such as Billions, Black Monday, The Chi, and Penny Dreadful: City of Angels. Due to the on-going pandemic, networks across television are struggling with the onslaught of suspended production and cancellations. 

For Showtime, the pandemic has halted the on-going production for season two of Black Monday which is amidst its second season. The comedy premiered in 2019 and stars Don Cheadle (House of Lies) and Andrew Rannells (Big Mouth) as it follows a Wall Street firm The Jammer Group leading up to the stock market crash on Black Monday in 1987. Currently, in its second season, the series will continue to air its fifth and sixth episodes on April 5 and April 12 at 9:50 PM ET respectively. The remainder of the second season will air later in 2020 with the sixth episode acting as a mid-series finale in the season’s story arc. Take a peek at the official season two trailer right here: 

Additionally, Billions is still primed to begin its fifth season on Saturday, May 3 at 9 PM ET. The drama starring Damian Lewis (Homeland) and Paul Giamatti (John Adams) is set to continue its storytelling on corruption in the financial world. Similar to Black Monday, Billions will air the first seven episodes before releasing the remaining episodes later in 2020. The critically acclaimed series’ seventh episode will also act as the season’s mid-series finale for the story arc. Check out the fifth season’s trailer below: 

Showtime has also announced that Lena Waithe’s (Master of None) series The Chi will begin its third season on Sunday, June 21 at 9 PM ET and continue to air episodes without interruption. This showtime drama stars Jacob Latimore (Detroit), Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine (Bosch), and Alex Hibbert (Moonlight) as their characters navigate life in the Southside of Chicago. An upcoming series Penny Dreadful: City of Angels is to begin its first season on Sunday, April 26 at 10 PM ET. Acting as a spin-off to Penny Dreadful, the new Showtime series takes place during the Golden Age of Hollywood as a detective attempts to solve a grisly murder. The program stars Natalie Dormer (Game of Thrones) as a supernatural demon and Daniel Zovatto (Fear the Walking Dead and Here and Now) as the LAPD Detective Tiago Vega.
