Second ‘Walking Dead’ Spin-off Rumored To Be In The Works

Vice has learned,  AMC recently announced plans for another spinoff for their uber popular show, The Walking Dead. Unlike the prequel Fear the Walking Dead, the new upcoming untitled show, will take place after the events of the original series.

According to a statement released by AMC, the series will follow “two young female protagonists and focus on the first generation to come of age in the apocalypse as we know it.”

Some will become heroes. Some will become villains. In the end, all of them will be changed forever. Grown-up and cemented in their identities, both good and bad.

AMC has also announced plans that it will slate the upcoming show for a premiere date next year, after finishing up production this coming summer.

Walking Dead vet and writer Matt Negrete, who co-created the upcoming series with former Walking Dead showrunner Scott Gimple, will helm the show officially. The series will also add on to the already ongoing list of zombie centric adaptations, with the two series that are currently on air and rumored Walking Dead movies.

According to the network’s head of ad sales, Scott Collins, the addition of the third series will allow for “completely uninterrupted Walking Dead universe content,” indefinitely. An interesting choice for the cable network to make, despite the original series’ Season 9 finale being the show’s lowest level of viewership to date.

Although with the series maintaining its #1 spot on cable television, AMC most likely is more influenced by the show’s popularity rather then recent criticisms or viewership ratings. In September 2018, AMC CEO Josh Sapan stated that they plan to pursue more outlets through The Walking Dead franchise for the next ten years, which will involve the production of new feature films and television series, all based loosely on the original comic book.
