Season 2 Premiere of ‘Killing Eve’ Is Show’s Most Watched Episode

Killing Eve premiered its second season and had ratings the show has never seen before. The series airs on both the BBC and AMC and returned with record breaking numbers, according to Variety. The demographic breakdown shows that the series had around 439,000 viewers in the 25-54 age range, while the 18-49 age range garnered around 327,000 total viewers.

Just yesterday, AMC announced that the series was renewed for a season three. This comes just one day after the season premiere. Suzanne Heathcote will be the new showrunner taking over for Emerald Fennell. “It’s been such an exciting year for me on Killing Eve. I think it’s cool that this tradition has been built into this untraditional show. Inheriting some of Phoebe’s characters was a treat – I can’t wait to see what Suzanne does next,” Fennell said.

Sarah Barnett, president of entertainment networks for AMC said “Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Emerald Fennell have delivered two addictively entertaining seasons. As we did last year, we’re renewing Killing Eve right out of the gate, now with Suzanne Heathcote as lead writer, as a sign of confidence – we adore this show as much as our fans do. Killing Eve doesn’t do anything in a templated way; we love giving opportunity to three genius women to make their mark.”

Grey’s Anatomy star, Sandra Oh has won a Golden Globe,  Critics’ Choice Award and Dorian Award for her performance in the series. Oh plays a government operative, while her co-star Jodie Comer plays a psychotic villain. Comer also won a Broadcasting Press Guild Award and the Royal Television Society Award.

“We love having this show and the brilliant Sandra Oh, Jodie Comer and Fiona Shaw on our networks,” Barnett added. The renewal comes after Killing Eve was nominated for 15 BAFTA awards. Sally Woodward Gentle, Lee Morris, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Gina Mingacci, Damon Thomas and Sandra Oh will all be executive producers for the third season.
