Quinta Brunson, Star of ‘A Black Lady Sketch Show’ to Write ‘Harrity Elementary,’ a Comedy Pilot for ABC, Will Film in the Next Few Months

Quinta Brunson (A Black Lady Sketch Show, Big Mouth) has scored a deal for a comedy pilot, which she will write and executive produce, with ABC, according to Variety. ABC originally committed to deal with Brunson in September, and the project, now titled Harrity Elementary, is set to film in the coming months.

Harrity Elementary is about a few teachers working “in one of the worst public schools in the country,” who become friends and try to fight against the school district’s “bullshit attitude toward educating children,” according to Deadline.

Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker, co-creators and executive producers of DC Universe-now-HBO-Max Harley Quinn animated show, will executive produce the show under their own Delicious Non-Sequitur Productions, according to Deadline. Harrity Elementary will reunite Brunson, Halpern and Schumacker, as the trio also worked on CW pilot The End of the World as We Know It in 2018.

In addition to her recent starring role in A Black Lady Sketch Show, Brunson has also done series for Instagram and Facebook, titled Girl Who Has Never Been on a Nice Date and Quinta vs. Everything, respectively. Brunson had two speaking roles in Netflix’s Big Mouth and also played Dr. Collier in iZombie from CW.

News of this pilot order comes just as Bucktown, the latest comedy from The Conners executive producers Sara Gilbert and Tom Werner, was announced Sunday.
