Prime Video has decided not to move forward with second season of It’s Not Like That. According to Deadline, the faith-based family drama from Wonder Project has been canceled after just one season despite earning strong reviews and remaining on the streamer’s Top 10 charts.
The series starred Scott Foley (Scandal, Felicity) as Malcolm, a widowed pastor raising three children, and Erinn Hayes (Kevin Can Wait, Childrens Hospital) as Lori, a recently divorced mother of two teenagers. Throughout the first season, the pair navigated life, family, and unexpected feelings as they adjusted to their new realities.
Deadline details that the show’s cancellation comes roughly month and a half after its global debut on Prime Video. Like Wonder Project’s House of David, the series first premiered on the Wonder Project Prime Video add-on channel before receiving a wider release on the platform.
While It’s Not Like That will not return, Deadline reports that House of David has secured a third season. Both shows were originally commissioned under Prime Video’s previous leadership, and the decision surprised many, given the shows’ positive reception.
Deadline notes that It’s Not Like That holds a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes and appeared at No. 9 on Prime Video’s first weekly global Top 10 rankings. The drama also remained a consistent presence on the platform’s U.S. Daily Top 10 list, where it was still ranked No. 5 at the time of the report.
Created by Ian Deitchman (Parenthood, The Christmas Chalet) and Kristin Robinson (Parenthood, The Christmas Chalet), the series ended with Malcolm finally preparing to confess his feelings for Lori. However, the moment existed only in his imagination.
Instead, Lori shared that she was torn between continuing a relationship with her new boyfriend or reconciling with her ex-husband, leaving Malcolm’s confession for another day that viewers will now never see.
Although It’s Not Like That found an audience and earned strong critical reviews, its first season will now serve as the series’ complete story.
