NBC is going to have to start casting calls for two of every animal.
Deadline reports that the network has bought the modern-day Noah retelling spec The Ark from Zemeckis’ Imagemovers company and from 20th Century Fox TV. The spec was written by industry Black List scribe Daniel Kunka (The Battle of New Orleans, Yellowstone Falls, Space Invaders, Agent Ox, Bermuda Triangle). The Ark is executive produced by Robert Zemeckis, Jack Rapke and Jackie Levine from Imagemovers, and Adam Kolbrenner and Robyn Meisinger of Madhouse Entertainment.
Kunka’s The Ark turns the biblical story on its head with its modern take. The series focuses on a recently widowed engineer who has a vision that tells him to design a ship that will sustain life in space. The engineer starts to suspect something big is happening when he comes to realize that his ship constructing lines up with the coming end of the world.
The series was originally set up at 20th Century Fox TV’s cable division, Fox 21 TV Studios. It was moved to 20th TV when it was eventually decided that the series was more in line with network television.
Zemeckis is mainly known for writing/producing/directing many classic feature films, but he is no stranger to television. In the late 80s/early 90s Zemeckis was an executive producer on HBO’s horror anthology series Tales from the Crypt. Zemeckis also directed a few episodes of the series, including And All Through the House, Yellow, and You, Murderer.
