The actors playing the two artists have officially joined the cast of the Lifetime project, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Chattrisse Dolabaille and Izaak Smith are set to play Missy Elliott and Timberland in the biopic of Aaliyah’s life. Both artists worked closely with the singer in her 1996 album One in a Million along with her self-titled release in 2001, the same year Aaliyah died in a plane crash at the age of 22.
The project is aiming to “honor the legacy” of the hit singer. Filming will resume for the duration of the summer in hopes for a fall release date. Alexandra Shipp will portray Aaliyah in the movie titled Aaliyah: More Than a Woman.
