‘Lopez vs. Lopez’ Scores Nine More Episodes with NBC

According to the Hollywood Reporter, NBC has just ordered an additional nine episodes for the first season of the family feud-style sitcom Lopez vs. Lopez. The back-nine brings Lopez vs. Lopez‘s total episode count for the season to twenty-two, the former standard count for a typical broadcast series.

For those not in the know, Lopez vs. Lopez follows George Lopez (The George Lopez Show, The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl) and Mayan Lopez (Mr. Troop Mom, Handsome), who both play as themselves respectively in this heart-warming satire about an estranged father and daughter learning to reconnect with one another and make-up for the lost time between them. The series also stars the acting talents of Selenis Levya (Orange is the New Black, Diary of a Future President), Matt Shively (True Jackson, VP, Paranormal Activity 4), and Al Madrigal (Morbius, The Way Back).

The show airs on Fridays and has accumulated a modest initial audience despite being stuck on one of the worst nights of the week for household TV usage. According to the Hollywood Reporter, initial viewings are averaging about 2.28 million viewers that only grows to about 2.82 million with a week of DVR playback.

While its broadcast numbers were nothing to scoff at, the series seems to have found greater success on Peacock and NBC’s other streaming platforms. As written by the Hollywood Reporter, in the four weeks following the debut premiere of Lopez vs. Lopez, the series has more than tripled its original audience to 7.6 million viewers.

The series is helmed by creator and showrunner Debby Wolfe (Love, Victor, One Day at a Time) who also serves as executive producer alongside Lopez, Bruce Helford (The Drew Carrey Show, Anger Management), Michael Rotenberg (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Beavis and Butthead), and Katie Newman (The Last Man on Earth, Crush).
