HBO Max’s ‘Green Lantern’ Series To Be Written By Seth Grahame-Smith & Marc Guggenheim

The head writer and showrunner for HBO Max‘s all-new take on the Green Lantern franchise have been confirmed by Deadline today. Seth Grahame-Smith (author of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies) will serve as showrunner and write alongside Marc Guggenheim (Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters) for the live-action reboot.

Both are already well-versed with the characters of DC Comics. Grahame-Smith wrote for The LEGO Batman Movie and was at one point attached to write and direct the upcoming The Flash film. Guggenheim was co-creator of the CW series Arrow and worked on multiple shows in the so-called “Arrowverse,” particularly the ensemble show Legends of Tomorrow. Another DC veteran who worked alongside Guggenheim on the Arrowverse, Greg Berlanti (You) will executive produce the series. His production company Berlanti Productions will produce the series with Warner Bros. Berlanti said at the show’s reveal last year that it will be “unlike anything seen on television” and “In what promises to be our biggest DC show ever made, we will be going to space with a Green Lantern television series,” Deadline reported.

The Green Lantern series will follow an ensemble of the titular defenders of Earth. The Green Lanterns are an intergalactic police force set on keeping the peace all across the galaxy. The series will follow several heroes, including Jessica Cruz, Guy Gardner, Simon Baz, Alan Scott, and all-new heroes created for the series. A multitude of fan-favorites are also set to appear, including the villains Sinestro and Kilowog. Sarah Aubrey (producer on Friday Night Lights), HBO Max’s Head of Original Content, said earlier this year that the series will “span several decades on focus on two stories about Green Lanterns on Earth,” Deadline reported.

The series has been given a ten-episode order from Warner Bros.
