Golden Globe 2014 Nominations: Old Favorites Fall as Newcomers Take the Lead

The nominees for the 71st annual Golden Globes Awards have been announced.

The nominations announced Thursday morning by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association show that American Hustle and 12 Years a Slave have the most nominations for this year’s ceremony.

After two years of Golden Globe recognition for Homeland, this year the Showtime drama was left out. Last year, the drama thriller drama received four nominations. The same thing happened to HBO’s Boardwalk Empire which won the award for the Best Drama Series in 2011.The HBO’s drama had scored at least two nominations every year.

Meanwhile, Netflix’s House of Cards is leading the way with four nominations, including the one nomination for the Best Drama Series. Michael Sheen from Masters of Sex got a nomination for best TV series actor and the Showtime’s series also got a nomination for best drama.

In the actress department Tatiana Maslany from Orphan Black from BBC America and Taylor Schilling of Netflix’s Orange is the New Black got nominated for Best Drama Actress. The other first-timers are Kerry Washington from Scandal and Robin Wright from House of Cards.

Behind the Candelabra was also nominated for Best Movie/Miniseries, Best Actor  (Michael Douglas and Matt Damon) and Best Supporting Actor – Rob Lowe.

The 71st Annual Golden Globe Awards will air on January 12, 2014 on NBC according to Deadline. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will be the host of the ceremony.
