Chrissy Teigen Steps Away from Guest Role in Netflix’s ‘Never Have I Ever’ Following Bullying Controversy

Chrissy Teigen (The Mitchells v. the Machines), who was expected to have a guest voiceover role in the second season of Never Have I Ever, has now stepped away from the role. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Teigen has made public statements admitting and apologizing to media personality Courtney Stodden for bullying the latter in online comments.

While the role would have only brought Teigen on for one episode of the Netflix original comedy series, the star decided to step away, via The Hollywood Reporter. The role is expected to be recast following Teigen’s exit.

Teigen was accused of bullying Stodden in tweets that recently resurfaced from a decade ago. According to The Hollywood Reporter, many of Teigen’s tweets encouraged Stodden to take her own life. Stodden claimed these attacks from Teigen occurred both publicly and privately, stating “[Teigen] wouldn’t just publicly tweet about wanting me to take ‘a dirt nap’ but would privately DM me and tell me to kill myself. Things like, ‘I can’t wait for you to die’” (The Hollywood Reporter).

In response Teigen penned an apology over several tweets following the allegations, stating “not a lot of people are lucky enough to be held accountable for all their past bullshit in front of the entire world. I’m mortified and sad at who I used to be. I was an insecure, attention seeking troll. I am ashamed and completely embarrassed at my behavior but that is nothing compared to how I made Courtney feel. I have worked so hard to give you guys joy and be beloved and the feeling of letting you down is nearly unbearable, truly” (The Hollywood Reporter).

Despite Teigen’s unexpected departure, Never Have I Ever is preparing for it’s second season to premiere on Netflix. According to What’s on Netflix, the series wrapped production on the second season in early 2021, and the second season is expected to premiere sometime later this year.
