‘Broadchurch’ Season 3 To Premiere In June On BBC America

The third and final season of Chris Chibnall’s critically acclaimed British crime series, Broadchurch, is set to premiere in the U.S. on June 28th, Deadline reports. The series originally premiered its final season in the UK in February on ITV, wrapping up in April.

The return of Broadchurch, which sees Detective Sergeant Ellie Miller (Olivia Colman) and Detective Inspector Alec Hardy (David Tennant) investigate a new crime in the small, coastal community of Dorset each season, was a ratings hit for ITV, giving it its best drama ratings since the series was last on in 2015. Fox attempted to replicate Broadchurch‘s ratings success in the U.S. with a remake of the series under the title Gracepoint, but had no luck. Chibnall created the Fox series, which still starred Tennant, but saw Colman replaced by Breaking Bad‘s Anna Gunn.

“There is a bold, new crime story, which forces us to ask whether the town has a crack running through it caused by Danny Latimer’s death; is this new crime somehow the long-term legacy of that dark moment?”, said executive producer Jane Featherstone of the final season. “Our central characters must contend with this possibility as they battle to make hope, friendship and love triumph over fear and suspicion, as a host of new suspects present themselves.”

Season 3 of Broadchurch picks up three years after season 2 as Miller and Hardy investigate a sexual assault case in Dorset. Season 3 features the return of cast members Jodie Whittaker, Andrew Buchan, Arthur Darvill, Carolyn Pickles, Charlotte Beaumont, and Adam Wilson. Newcomers to season 3 are Lenny Henry, Roy Hudd, Julie Hesmondhalgh, Georgina Campbell, Sarah Parish, Charlie Higson, and Mark Bazeley.
