Berlanti expands DCTV with ‘Strange Adventures’ and ‘Green Lantern’ for HBO Max

Greg Berlanti is bringing two new series to HBO Max. Stange Adventures and Green Lantern will bring the DC Comics Universe into the galaxy! Berlanti will be executive producing both series.

Berlanti was at the HBO Max WarnerMedia Day presentation this past Tuesday. “Both of these original DC properties we’ll be creating for HBO Max will be unlike anything seen on television,” said Berlanti. “An anthology series of cautionary tales set in a world where superpowers exist, and, in what promises to be our biggest DC show ever made, we will be going to space with a Green Lantern television series, but I can’t reveal any more about that just yet.”

The Stange Adventures series has been described as a DC superhero anthology that pulls in characters from that entire universe. It will be a one-hour drama that will ‘explore close-ended stories about the intersecting lives of ordinary humans and superhumans.’

There has been no news on the storyline for Green Lantern. Berlanti co-wrote and co-produced the Green Lantern film that came out in 2011 starring Ryan Reynolds. Outside of the blockbuster film, the property has only existed in the NBC TV movie Legends of Superheroes in 1979.

Berlanti currently has eight DC Comic shows on the CW Arrow, Batwoman, Black Lightning, Supergirl, Flash, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. He also has two shows on the DC Universe streaming service Doom Patrol and Titans. The CW announced that Berlanti would be developing two new shows for the Arroverse: Superman & Lois Lane and an untitled show starring Katherine McNamara, Katie Cassidy, and Juliana Harkavy in an Arrow spin-off.

Outside of the DC Universe, Berlanti has two other projects in development with the streaming service. He is set to be the executive producer for The Flight Attendant, which will star Kaley Cuoco. It was announced earlier that he will be executive producing the LGBT+ docuseries Equal.

HBO Max launches May 2020 for $15 a month.
