Apple TV+’s ‘Shining Girls’ to Be Directed by Elisabeth Moss, Michelle MacLaren, and Daina Reid

Apple TV+’s upcoming thriller Shining Girls is set to make use of it’s on-screen talent behind the scenes. Elisabeth Moss (actress and director, The Handmaid’s Tale) is preparing to direct at least two episodes of the limited series alongside Michelle MacLaren (executive producer, Breaking Bad) and Daina Reid (director, The Handmaid’s Tale), according to Deadline.

Shining Girls, which will be an eight-episode limited series, is based on the best-selling novel of the same name. Written by Lauren Beukes (author, Broken Monsters), Shining Girls follows Kirby, a female reporter from Chicago who survives an aggregious assault, via Deadline. After she recovers, Kirby finds herself hunting down her assailant, uncovering more of the mystery surrounding her attack.

According to the series’ IMDb page, Moss is billed to play Kirby. Other cast members for the thriller series will included Jaime Bell (Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse) and Wagner Moura (Narcos). Bell will star as Harper, an unattached loner, and Moura will play Dan, a veteran journalist who works with Kirby.

In addition to starring in and directing Shining Girls, Moss will be executive producing the series through Love & Squalor Pictures, via Deadline. She will direct two of the eight episodes of the series, MacLaren will direct another two episodes, with Reid directing the remaining four. Both MacLaren and Reid will serve alongside Moss as executive producers on the series.

According to Deadline, Shining Girls will be helmed by Silka Luisa (producer, Strange Angel) who will serve as the series’ showrunner as well as being an executive producer. Other producers include Lindsey McManus (producer, Run Rabbit Run), Leonardo DiCaprio (The Wolf of Wall Street), Jennifer Davisson (producer, Out of the Furnace), Michael Hampton (producer, The Right Stuff), and Alan Page Arriaga (producer, Fear the Walking Dead).
