According to Deadline, Chicago Fire is set to get a new chief, as long-time showrunner Andrea Newman is leaving for the upcoming season. Victor Terran will take over her roles as Executive Producer and showrunner. Newman has been with the series for its entire 14-season run. She initially began as co-executive producer before taking over the ship in season six as co-showrunner with Derek Hass. She would eventually become the sole showrunner two years later. Teran has been with the show since season 10. It was his first role in television, as previously he had worked in indie filming and as VP of Physical Production at Sidney Kimmel Entertainment.
Newman reportedly has not been fired, and leaving the series was her own decision. Peter Janowski of Wolf Entertainment released a statement about Newman’s departure, “We’re sad to say goodbye to Andrea. She’s been at the heart and soul of Chicago Fire since the beginning, and the show thrived under her watch. We’re grateful for her commitment to the development of the next generation and know the show will be in great hands with Victor taking the reins,” via Deadline.
Newman also issued well wishes to the Wolf Entertainment team, “Working at Chicago Fire, with the absolute best cast and crew in the business, has been the highlight of my career. “Like so many others, I was inspired to get into TV writing because of Dick, so what a thrill it’s been to work with him and the amazing Wolf team of Peter Jankowski, Rebecca McGill, and Anastasia Puglisi. I’m so grateful to them, Derek Haas and the NBC and Universal execs who have been so supportive of the show all along the way. After 14 years, you really do become a family, and working with this group will always feel like home,” via Deadline.
Chicago Fire is produced by Wolf Entertainment and One Chicago. It, along with the other Chicago series, has been renewed for 2026-2027.
