According to Deadline, fans of the Spideverse were given preview of the upcoming series Spider Noir from Sony Pictures Television. MGM and Prime Video released the trailer at a viewing CCXPMX26 in Mexico City. Stars of the series were also at the event, including Lamorne Morris (Game Night, New Girl), Li Jun Li (Sinners, Babylon), Jack Huston (Kill Your Darlings, American Hustle), and. The creator and showrunner of the series, Oren Uziel (The Lost City, Mortal Kombat), was also in attendance. View the trailer below.
The trailer appears to take a different tone than the Sipderverse movies, perhaps taking inspiration from its namesake and leaning into the noir genre. Additionally, Spider-Noir will be live action instead of animated. Nicolas Cage (The Unbearable Weight Of Massive Talent, Ghost Rider), who voiced the character in the Spider-Verse movies, plays a private investigator dealing with the side effects of new spider-based powers. After a bar fight where Spider Noir Handley takes care of some shady characters, he proceeds to get “plastered”. After which we see some title cards playing on the motto of the original Spider-Man comics, which “With no power, comes no responsibility. The trailer is available in both Black & White and ‘True-Hue Full Color.
Directly following Cage, a video greeting to fans at the event would precede a sneak peek of an extended scene. The series,, based on the Marvel comic Spider-Man Noir,, follows Ben Reiley, a private investigator whose career and personal life have seen better days. Reily must confront his past trauma as he navigates 1930s New York City as its sole superpowered protector.
The series is set to debut on May 25th on MGM+’s linear channels and will be widely available on the 27th. Other cast members not previously named include Abraham Popoola (The Great, Andor), and Brendan Gleeson (The Banshees Of Inisherin, In Bruges).
