Deadline has reported that Tony Shalhoub (American Classic, Play Dirty) will join the cast of the upcoming CBS series Einstein. This will mark the second collaboration between Shalhoub and executive producer Andy Brekman (Rat Race, Saturday Night Live). Previously, the duo worked together on the hit show Monk, which Brakeman created and Shalhoub starred. Einstein is set for the 2026-2027 broadcast season. The series is currently in production.
Einstein follows Lewis Einstein, Albert Einstein’s descendant. Lewis is a professor at Princeton, although tenure and his name make him somewhat of an absentee at the position. When some of his antics lead to friction with local law enforcement, he is enlisted by Detective Teri, played by Mellisa Fumero (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell), to help solve her most perplexing cases. Shalhoub will play Lewis’s father, Jack Einstein. Lewis will be played by Matthew Gray Gubler (500 Days Of Summer, Criminal Minds)
In a similar procedural vein, Monk starred Shalhoub as a detective who struggled with obsessive-compulsive disorder. While his disease hampered him, it also granted him a near superhuman ability to notice details. The series ran for eight seasons and a movie entitled Mr. Monk’s Last Case. Shalhoub won three Emmys for his work on the series. Addtionally, he won a fourth for supporting work in The Marvelous Ms. Maisel. Shalhoub has also had roles in Men In Black, The Man Who Wasn’t There, Big Night, Galaxy Quest, The Siege, and Barton Fink.
Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor (King Richard, Men Of Honor) also joins the cast as Captain Frost. Randy Zisk (Boston Blue, The End Game), another Monk collaborator executive produces with Michael Rauch (Royal Pains, Beautiful People), Tariq Jalil (Camden, Operation Repo), Rose Hughes (Refugee From The Storm, The Branch Report), Rodrigo Herrera Ibarguengoytia (Those Who Stayed, Soon Comes The Night) , and Laura Beetz (While The Men Are Away, The Gone).
