Apple TV+ comedy series Shrinking has officially added its first major new cast member for season four. According to Screen Rant, Karen Gillan (Guardians of the Galaxy, The Call of the Wild, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle) has joined the cast of the acclaimed comedy, though details surrounding her character remain under wraps.

Shrinking was created by Jason Segel (Forgetting Sarah Marshall, The Muppets, The Five-Year Engagement), Bill Lawrence (Ted Lasso, Scrubs, Rooster), and Brett Goldstein (Ted Lasso, Thor: Love and Thunder, SuperBob). The series follows therapist Jimmy Laird, played by Segel, as he navigates life and grief following the death of his wife while forming unconventional relationships with his patients, family, and colleagues.
The series also stars Harrison Ford (Raiders of the Lost Ark, Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, The Fugitive) as therapist Paul Rhodes, Jessica Williams (Booksmart, Love Life, 2 Dope Queens), Christa Miller (Scrubs, Cougar Town, The Drew Carey Show), Luke Tennie (Abbott Elementary, The Pitt, Jade), Lukita Maxwell (Afraid, Generation, An Autumn Summer), Michael Urie (Ugly Betty, The Decoy Bride, Younger), and Ted McGinley (Silent Thunder, Revenge of the Nerds, The Baxters).
Lawrence recently revealed that season four will feature a time jump and begin a “completely new story” while continuing to follow Jimmy and Gaby in California. The upcoming season will also continue Paul’s battle with Parkinson’s disease and Alice’s transition to college on the East Coast.
Gillan is best known for portraying Nebula throughout Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers franchises, as well as Ruby Roundhouse in the Jumanji films. The actress previously worked alongside Ford in the 2020 adventure film The Call of the Wild, marking a reunion between the two actors for season four of Shrinking.
Since premiering in 2023, Shrinking has become one of Apple TV+’s most acclaimed comedy series. The series has earned multiple Emmy Award nominations and currently holds a 93% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes. Season three remains eligible for the upcoming Emmy Awards cycle.
Production on season four recently began, with Ford confirming that filming started in late May. Ford also revealed that the upcoming season is expected to consist of 12 episodes. While an official premiere date has not yet been announced by the streaming service, season four is expected to debut on Apple TV+ in early 2027.
