Timeless Movie Now Underway; Premiere Date Revealed

The Timeless movie is officially underway! The NBC drama series first announced that the series would come to a wrap with a full two hour movie to send off its beloved characters after disappointing news spread that the show would not be brought back for a third season.

Timeless follows a group of three seemingly-average Americans who are asked by the national government to ban together in an effort to defeat their enemy: an evil time traveling group. In an effort to preserve some of the most fundamental moments in the nation’s history, the group has to follow their foe through decade after decade. This also forces them to face some of the most difficult decisions of their entire life, like whether or not saving Abraham Lincoln (by having the chance to warn him of his upcoming assassination) is something that should be done, or if history should be kept intact?

Despite the show’s devoted fan base, the series was not able to garner enough viewers to help NBC feel certain that another season of the show would ultimately be beneficial for the network. This was not an unprecedented decision for the company to face, however, as the future of the series had already come into serious evaluation after a not-so-highly-watched first season on the network. Talk of cancellation even circulated then, but were ultimately quieted by the resounding amount of love shown to the series by their fan base through social media.

After weeks of uncertainty in regard to whether Lucy (Abigail Spencer), Wyatt (Matt Lanter), and Rufus (Malcolm Barrett) would return to the screen for a Season 3, with the stars and fans reaching out to all TV outlets in an effort to get it picked up, the show was ultimately cancelled. After the weeks of sadness that lingered with the reveal of the news, it was revealed that the shocking events that took place in the Season 2 finale would come to a proper conclusion with the creation of a two-part movie.

With the cast having just met for the read-through this week, the movie is officially in production. It was also released that the movie should be expected to air this December on NBC.
