The Testaments is expanding its cast as production moves forward on season two. According to Deadline, Charlie Carrick (The Apprentice, Alice, Darling) has been promoted to series regular for the second season of Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale sequel, and Haley Wong (Antigone (This Play I Read In High School), The Welkin) has also joined the series as a new regular.
Deadline notes Wong will play Prudence, a dutiful and pregnant wife living under Gilead’s rule. Despite her circumstances, Prudence will attempt to make room for joy in her life, even when doing so could put everything at risk.
Carrick returns as Commander Judd, a cold and calculating figure determined to strengthen his position within the highest levels of Gilead. His promotion comes after appearing during the show’s first season.
Based on Margaret Atwood’s novel, The Testaments follows Agnes and Daisy, two young women with very different relationships to Gilead. Agnes has grown up dutiful and religious, while Daisy arrives from beyond Gilead’s borders. Their lives intersect at Aunt Lydia’s elite preparatory school for future wives, where young women are taught obedience through brutal methods and religious justification.
Chase Infiniti (The Equalizer, Power Book III: Raising Kanan) stars as Agnes alongside Lucy Halliday (The Power, The Pact) as Daisy. Ann Dowd (The Leftovers, Hereditary) reprises her Handmaid’s Tale role as Aunt Lydia.
As mxdwn previously covered, the sequel shifts its focus toward this younger generation while maintaining connections to the original series. That coverage explored how Agnes has been raised under Gilead’s control, while Daisy begins her story outside its borders. It also highlighted Elisabeth Moss’ (Mad Men, The Invisible Man) limited return as June Osborne and how her presence helps connect the new story to The Handmaid’s Tale.
Bruce Miller (The Handmaid’s Tale, ER) created the series and serves as showrunner, with Warren Littlefield (Fargo, The Handmaid’s Tale) and Moss also among its executive producers. Mike Barker (Outlander, The Handmaid’s Tale) executive produces and directed the first three episodes and season one finale.
Season one of The Testaments premiered on Hulu in April. Production on season two began last month, with Wong’s arrival and Carrick’s promotion marking the latest changes to the cast as the series prepares to continue its story in Gilead.
