The Cult Classic ‘Party Down’ Is Getting a Six-Part Limited Series Revival At Starz

In a year full of reboots and remakes, the sitcom Party Down is getting a revival in the form of a six-part limited series on the Starz network, as reported by Deadline. The four original creators behind the show, Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Rob Thomas (iZombie), John Enbom (Veronica Mars), and Dan Etheridge (The Carrie Diaries) are all returning to develop the upcoming revival.

A short lived series that ran for just two seasons on Starz from 2009-2010, Party Down follows a group of struggling actors and writers working as caterers in L.A  who struggle to make ends meet while awaiting their big break in Hollywood. The series has since developed a cult following, partially due to the fact that the cast featured several household names in comedy before they were famous. It starred Jane Lynch (Glee), Adam Scott (Parks and Recreation), Martin Starr (Freaks and Geeks), Lizzy Caplan (Castle Rock), Ken Marino (Black Monday), Ryan Hansen (Veronica Mars), and Megan Mullally (Will & Grace).

Though critically acclaimed, the series ended abruptly due to various cast members leaving for other projects. Lynch went on to star in the mega successful Fox comedy series Glee and Scott left to be in the NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation. Several other actors from the series went on to star in notable shows as well, with Starr joining the cast of the HBO comedy series Silicon Valley and Caplan starring in Showtime’s critically acclaimed series Masters of Sex.

At this point, there has been no word or confirmation if any of the original cast members will be returning to reprise their roles. Christina Davis, the President of Original Programming for Starz, released a statement about the revival moving forward which was picked up by Deadline: “Before the cast of Party Down became well-known television and movie actors and award winners, they were all wearing the same pink bowties as part of a less than competent team of Los Angeles cater-waiters while chasing their dreams of stardom on the Starz series. Fans have been waiting more than ten years for this revival to happen and we’re thrilled to be in development with Rob, Paul, Dan and John at the helm.”

Enbom will serve as showrunner and co-executive producer on the upcoming six episode limited series alongside Rudd, Thomas and Etheridge. The original Party Down is available to stream on Hulu and the Starz network.
