Taylor Sheridan Scores Five More Cast Members Including Joaquina Kalukango and Lonnie Chavis for Upcoming Paramount+ Series, ‘Bass Reeves’

According to Deadline, Paramount+ has just hired Joaquina Kalukango (One Night in Miami…, When They See Us), Lonnie Chavis (This is Us, The Water Man), Rob Morgan (Stranger Things, Don’t Look Up), Ryan O’Nan (Queen of the South, Big Sky), and Justin Hurtt-Dunkley (Mare of Easttown, Blindspot) as key recurring characters in the upcoming Wild West drama series from Taylor Sheridan (Yellowstone, 1883) entitled, Bass Reeves. The five aforementioned actors will star opposite legendary talents such as David Oyelowo (Selma, See How They Run) and Dennis Quaid (Strange World, American Underdog).

As Deadline reports, the new Western thriller from Sheridan tells the real-life story of Bass Reeves, a black American law enforcer who is widely regarded as the greatest frontier hero in American history for apprehending over 3,000 dangerous criminals without receiving a single injury. Oyelowo is currently set to star as Reeves himself in the eponymous series, which is currently in production somewhere in Texas. The story is also set in the far distant past of the Yellowstone universe, the Paramount exclusive Wild Western drama series created by Sheridan himself.

Kalujango is set to portray Esme, a woman who was formerly enslaved and is also extremely close to the Reeves family. Esme is a free-spirit and creative thinker who has some unique, new ideas for the future of the Reeves clan.

Chavis will play Arthur Mayberry, a kind-hearted young man who attempts to court the Reeves’ daughter, Sally. On the other hand, Morgan will be playing Ramsey, a previously starry-eyed man who’s spirit has been crushed overtime by the oppressive nature of life in the Wild West.

O’Nan is playing Darrell Dolliver, a member of the Dolliver outlaw duo who Bass is tasked with tracking down and bringing to justice. Finally, Hurrt-Durkley is set to portray Ike, a deputy U.S. marshal.

Currently, Paramount+ has yet to announce when an official release date for Taylor Sheridan’s Bass Reeves can be expected.
