Star of ‘The Cleaning Lady,’ Elodie Yung Discusses Honoring Adan Canto And Hints At Season Three

The Cleaning Lady’s third season premiere is quickly approaching, and the cast and crew arstill in mourning for Adan Canto (Designated Survivor, X-Men: Days Of Future Past). Canto played Arman Morales, leader of the mob on the show. In The Cleaning Lady‘s first two seasons, Elodie Yung (Daredevil, The Hitman’s Bodyguardcostarred with Canto as Thony. In an interview with Deadline, Yung details how she hopes viewers feel they honored Cantos’ character and how the story may change as a result of his passing.  

“I’m not involved in the writing of the show, so I’m not sure how things were handled before,” Yung told Deadline in an interview Tuesday. “What I can tell you is that…they’ve had a lot of meetings to make sure that his memory has been honored, that we would do things the right way for him and for his family — for our audience as well.”

 Deadline reports that Canto’s health prevented him from filming when season three‘s production began in December, but he intended to return to the cast later in the season. 

Fox has already revealed that Cantos’ character Arman goes missing at the beginning of season three, but they haven’t offered any more details about the character’s present predicament.

According to Deadline, Yung talks about the lost of Cantos by saying: “It’s been extremely difficult. It’s losing a partner, a friend. This crew is very close to each other. We’ve been doing it for three seasons…it’s been it’s been tragic, and it’s been very painful, but I hope that I poured my heart into what I had to do this season. I know I did. I hope that I’ve honored our relationship, Thony and Arman.”

The actress revealed that viewers will return to the show a few months after the events of the season two finale, among other details about season three, according to Deadline.

“I think the intensity of the show increases because at the beginning of the season, you find Thony left alone facing the deportation of her sister-in-law,” Yung explained to Deadline. “She doesn’t have any resources that she can rely on, Thony is a very resourceful character, but she’s going to be pushed up even more this season because of this lack of resources.”

This season, Kate Del Castillo’s (No Good Dead, Bad Boys For LifeRamona Sanchez—the graceful, gorgeous, and regal matriarch of the Sanchez family—will pit Thony against a new foe. Beneath her calm wisdom lies a vicious cunning.

As stated by Deadline, Ramona presents herself to the outside world as a kind philanthropist, art collector, and devoted aunt to a small child, but in reality, she is a cunning, strong, and fierce guardian of her family, her company, and her many dark secrets. In addition, Clayton Cardenas (FBI, Mayans M.C.will portray Ramona’s dependable lieutenant, and Santiago Cabrera (Star Trek: Picard, The Musketeerswill appear as her brother. JB Tadena (NCIS, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.Dand Brandon Jay McLaren (Snowfall, The Rookiealso join the cast.

“I think it was a brilliant idea to bring the new nemesis, she’s a very powerful woman,” Yung said, withholding most of Del Castillo’s personal information. She continued by saying that in addition to “real subtlety,” Del Castillo gives her character “a lot of intelligence, strength, but also vulnerability.” Yung discusses more about her character: “Thony doesn’t quite know how to operate around her, and so it blurs things for Thony, She can’t figure out this world.”

Season three of Fox’s The Cleaning Lady premieres on March 5th at 7 p.m. CT/8 p.m. ET.
