Stanley Tucci Joins Limited Series Cast for Alejandro Amenábar’s Spanish Thriller ‘La Fortuna’

Stanley Tucci (The Hunger Games) will star in La Fortuna, the limited series created by Alejandro Amenábar (The Others). Amenábar and co-creator Alejandro Hernandez (Alt) will work with AMC Studios, Spain’s Movistar+ and MOD Pictures to produce the Spanish thriller, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The series was inspired by the graphic novel El Tesoro del Cisne Negro (The Treasure of the Black Swan). Alex Ventura, played by Álvaro Mel (A Different View), starts as a young Spanish diplomat and gets unintentionally involved in a rescue mission for sunken treasure. The treasure hunt will be led by Tucci’s character, Frank Wild. Ana Polvorosa (Skins) also joins the adventure as Lucia, a work colleague to Ventura. Supporting cast members include Clarke Peters (Da 5 Bloods), T’Nia Miller (Witless), Karra Elejalde (While at War), Manolo Solo (Pan’s Labyrinth), Blanca Portillo (Broken Embraces) and Pedro Casablanc (White Lines).

Production is set to begin in Spain this week and will move to North America next year with a series premiere date in late 2021. To The Hollywood Reporter about the challenges of filming during coronavirus, Amenábar said, “These days shooting a series such as this one is a big challenge that all our team takes on with enormous enthusiasm and responsibility. La Fortuna is fundamentally about optimism and the will to fight. Alex Ventura’s journey is also ours. We aim to fully succeed, but above all we hope to offer the audience a good dose of excitement and entertainment next year.”
