The details of the next season of Twin Peaks have been just as mysterious as the show itself, but Showtime’s CEO David Nevins and programming president Gary Levine have gotten a glimpse behind the curtain.
Deadline reports that at the TCAs both Nevins and Levine had very positive things to say about what they’d seen of the show so far. A short video that featured people discussing the experience of working on Twin Peaks was also shown.
A premiere date and the length of the next installment of Twin Peaks has not been confirmed, though the aim is still for mid-2017. Due to the fact that creators David Lynch and Mark Frost are working from a massive binder they wrote together, the amount of episodes in the upcoming season has yet to be determined.
Both Nevins and Levine, though they haven’t yet seen any cut footage, have seen some dailies that so far have them ecstatic.
“We were both instantly transported,” said Levine.
Lynch and Frost’s Twin Peaks is a highly unusual show to say the least, and Nevins spoke about how Showtime wants to take advantage of that when rolling the series out.
“Everything about Twin Peaks is going to be unconventional — unconventional in the handling of it and how we put it out in the world and how we market,” said Nevins. “I want to embrace the unusualness of it, and I think it is quite possible we’re not going to do a traditional release pattern. I don’t know exactly what that means yet. I’ve had a couple of conversations with [Lynch]. I can definitely see longer episodes or the question of how we release it linearly and for those who want to stream it.”
The upcoming season 3 of Twin Peaks boasts cast list equally as eclectic and bizarre as the show itself. Returning cast members include Kyle MacLachlan, Madchen Amick, Dana Ashbrook, Sheryl Lee, Ray Wise, Sherilyn Fenn, Kimmy Robertson, Everett McGill, Russ Tamblyn and Grace Zabriskie among others. The new additions to the cast include a phenomenally odd mix of comedians, dramatic actors, and musicians like Stephanie Allynne, Brett Gelman, David Koechner, Michael Cera, Charlyne Yi, Laura Dern, Ernie Hudson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Jane Levy, Tim Roth, Naomi Watts, Amanda Seyfried, Tom Sizemore, Matthew Lillard, Trent Reznor and Eddie Vedder.
