Lin-Manuel Miranda to Narrate Episode of ‘Drunk History’

Most of us, unless we start auctioning off our most expensive possessions, can’t afford tickets to Broadway mega-hit Hamilton. The good news is, at the Drunk History Comic Con panel this Thursday, it was announced that Lin-Manuel Miranda will be narrating an episode of Drunk History this fall. He will tell the story of the young, scrappy, and hungry Alexander Hamilton and his adversary, Aaron Burr.

There is no better choice than Hamilton enthusiast and Hamilton creator Miranda to narrate the episode. Ironically, in December of 2015, Miranda tweeted: “Hamilton was the first story ever told on Drunk History. I’d have to get drunk and tell you something else.” Turns out that Miranda will just have to repeat the story. After all, isn’t America characterized by repetition of history?

In a gender reversal, Alia Shawkat will play Hamilton, with Aubrey Plaza as Aaron Burr. Tony Hale will play James Monroe.  A preview of the women in costume can be found here, from Entertainment Weekly.

“Lin knows the history backwards and forwards,” Shawkat told Entertainment Weekly. “He used [Drunk History] to tell different specifics of the story, so it’s not like we’re watching the same stuff. He told the specifics of personal fights they got in and other stuff that still ties into the overall story of Hamilton, but stuff I didn’t know.”

Miranda took to Twitter to discuss his experience on Drunk History:

The episode of Drunk History premieres Nov. 29.
