Showrunner For ‘Chicago Med’ Departs Over Creative Differences

Executive producer and showrunner for Chicago Med, Andrew Dettman, has left the show over creative differences according to Variety.

A spokesperson commented about the departure to Variety saying, “Andrew Dettmann won’t be continuing as an executive producer on Chicago Med. The network and studio value their relationship with Andy and plan to continue to work on other projects together”.

Chicago Med does not have an immediate replace for Andrew Dettman, but they still have Dick Wolf, Matt Olmstead, Derek Haas, Michael Brandt, Peter Janowski, Danielle Gelber and Arthur Forney still serving as executive producers. The reoccurring cast includes Oliver Platt, S. Epatha Merkerson, Nick Gehlfuss, Yaya Dacosta and Colin Donnell.

In other news for the NBC show, Chicago Med added stars Torrey DeVitto (Pretty Little Liars), Brian Tee (The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift), and Rachel DiPillo (Jane The Virgin). Also, earlier in August The Walking Dead alum, Laurie Holden, marked her departure from Chicago Med as well, saying “I am so grateful to Dick Wolf, my fellow cast members, NBC and the entire Chicago Med team for their understanding. Sometimes we must make tough choices and, for family reasons, not doing Chicago Med is one of those for me at this time. I know the show is going to be huge success and I’ll be watching” (Deadline).

NBC describes the medical drama as “an emotional ride through the day-to-day chaos of the city’s most explosive hospital and the courageous team of doctors that holds it together”.

The spinoff and third installment to the Chicago series comes to NBC on November 17.
