The star of The Mandalorian, Pedro Pascal (Wonder Woman: 1984) has confirmed that production on the third season of the Disney+ original series has yet to start. According to Comic Book, the actor disclosed the status of the highly successful Star Wars series during an Actors on Actors segment with Ewan McGregor (Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith) for Variety.
While the two Star Wars actors interviewed one another, Din Djarin himself revealed that “we haven’t shot a third season” (Comic Book). Ironically, this news comes as McGregor‘s upcoming solo series, Obi-Wan Kenobi, began shooting earlier this month. According to Comic Book, The Mandalorian‘s third season was initially set to begin shooting back in April, but COVID-19 delays have pushed production to an unknown future date.
What’s most interesting about The Mandalorian‘s unknown production schedule is how it will affect the third season’s premiere date. The first two seasons of Mandalorian have released in fall, but the third is set to deviate. According to Comic Book, The Book of Boba Fett will be released during the timeline that The Mandalorian would typically occupy. A tweet released from Book of Boba Fett star Ming Na-Wen (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) confirmed that the show has wrapped production.
Some reports suspect that Pascal’s admission of delayed production on The Mandalorian may be due to his upcoming role as Joel Miller in HBO’s television series adaptation of The Last of Us, via Comic Book. He is set to star opposite Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones), who will play Ellie.
