HBO Max’s ‘Hacks’ Gets Second Season

In news that probably won’t come as a shock to fans, Jean Smart’s Hacks has been picked up for a second season. The HBO Max Original has not finished its ten-episode first season when the news broke with the final two episodes premiering on June 10th.

Via Deadline, the show, which stars Jean Smart (Frasier) and Hannah Einbinder (How to Be Broke), has been somewhat of hit at HBO Max. Although they do not post numbers on viewership, the streaming service announced that Hacks has been a “top performer” and “consistently ranking in the top ten most viewed titles.” This sentiment was echoed in a press release from Sarah Aubrey, Head of Original Content at HBO Max, obtained by Deadline. Aubrey stated, “We have been blown away by the positive reception to Hacks– we owe this renewal to every single person who turned into the show.”

Combining the popularity the show seems to have accrued with the reviews it has gotten, the renewal for a second season is a no brainer. The program currently holds 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes which is no easy feat to come by.

Finally, add the talent that has been put around the two leads, and there becomes no possibility that the show could end after one season. Carl Clemons-Hopkins (Chicago PD) as Marcus, the chief operating officer for Smart’s Deborah Vance, and Christopher McDonald (Happy Gilmore) as Marty, CEO of the Palmetto Casino, are two great additions to round out the main cast.

The show centers around Smart’s Vance, an aging comic in Las Vegas looking to appeal to a younger audience, taking on a mentee, Einbinder’s Ava Daniels. The duo runs into all sorts of hilarity as they work through the whirlwind that is Vegas show business.

‘Hacks’ season two is still very much in the works so stay tuned for more information. In the meantime, stream the final two episodes of season one on June 10.
