Season Three Of HBO’s ‘House Of The Dragon’ Premieres With 21 Million Viewers In Three Days

According to Deadline, the third season of HBO’s House of the Dragon premieres with high viewership on par with its second season. The season attracted 21.5M global viewers in the first three days across HBO and HBO Max, Warner Bros. Discovery said Thursday.

As per Deadline, this viewership is about 8% down from the second season’s  23.4M viewers in three days. Although this is the case, the third season had a strong enough audience retention for the season debut. The decline was expected the series lost viewership between the first two seasons. WBD says that weekly viewership for the second season tripled leading into Sunday night’s third season premiere.

The eight-episode season will debut new episodes weekly on Sunday nights on HBO and will be available to stream on HBO Max leading up to the season finale on August ninth Deadline reports.

House of the Dragon is an enthralling fantasy drama that serves as a prequel to the iconic Game of Thrones. Drawing inspiration from George R.R. Martin’s (A Dream of Spring, The Winds of Winter) work, Fire & Blood, it explores the zenith of the Targaryen lineage. Set against the backdrop of a fierce civil war for succession—famously dubbed the ‘Dance of the Dragons’—the narrative reveals the events that lead to their ultimate tragic decline.

The cast of the series includes Matt Smith (Doctor Who, The Crown) as Prince Daemon Targaryen, Emma D’Arcy (The Talent, Digger) as Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen, Olivia Cooke (Ready Player One, Sound of Metal) as Queen Alicent Hightower, Fabien Frankel (The Serpent, The Actor) as Ser Criston Cole, Steve Toussaint (Small Axe, Eyes of Wakanda) as Lord Corlys , Sonoya Mizuno (La La Land, Ex Machina) as Mysaria, Matthew Needham (The Ritual, Napoleon) as Lord Larys, Kurt Egyiawan (A Real Pain, Beasts of No Nation) as Grand Maester Orwyle, Rhys Ifans (Notting Hill, Star City) as Ser Otto Hightower, Jefferson Hall (Halloween, Tenet) as Ser Tyland Lannister.

House of the Dragon is available to stream on HBO Max.
