Deadline confirms that the eight-episode Cold War espionage thriller was shuttered at Peacock after failing to attract enough viewers. The show gained prestige after reigning in top-tier critic ratings, scoring a 94% critics’ score and an 83% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes, yet failing to ever enter into the Neilson Streaming Top 10 Charts.
The show starred Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones, Me Before You) and Haley Lu Richardson (Five Feet Apart, The White Lotus) and was framed as a period-comedy drama, which only recently premiered this year on January 15th. Clarke was also the executive producer and had spoken about her desire to cross over into directing episodes in the second season. It seems that Clarke will have to put those ambitions to the side for now as she stars and produces Next Life, a Sci-Fi romantic drama about a parallel universe that just premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and stars in a leading role in Prime Video’s upcoming comic-book adaptation series Criminal.
Ponies fans will be left with a bad taste in their mouth as the first season was ended on a few unresolved cliffhangers that fans will never get to see resolved. Clarke also mentioned during press rounds with The Wrap that she had incurred a minor injury while filming when one of her ribs popped out of place. Clarke said that the injury was a result of filming multiple rapid-paced love scenes and joked about how when the doctor asked what had occurred, she replied, “sex times three!”
The cancellation is bittersweet as the show and its cast are considered to be dark horse contenders in the comedy/drama category for the 2026 Primetime Emmy Awards. Voting just concluded on June 22nd. Nominees will be announced on July 8th, and the final results will be announced on Monday, September 14th.
