The release of season 4 of The Handmaid’s Tale will be moved to 2021, Hulu announced Monday according to The Wrap. The news was dropped during an online presentation towards advertisers. It was also revealed that Hulu new series Nine Perfect Strangers starring Nicole Kidman (Big Little Lies) and Melissa McCarthy (Mike & Molly) as well as The Dropout featuring Kate McKinnon (Bombshell) will be moved to release next year.
With production of the fourth season starting in March, it was quickly shutdown due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The plan was for the season to kick off this coming Fall. At this time, it is not known when the dystopian tragedy series will resume filming via Comicbook.com.
The Handmaid’s Tale earned 14 Emmy within the first two seasons. Starring Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men) as protagonist June, the series revolves around the 1985 novel focusing on the aftermath of a second American Civil War. Where the world must adapt to a totalitarian rule and low fertility rates.
The series was renewed for a fourth season before the premiere of the Season 3 finale back in 2019. Created by Bruce Miller (Eureka), the third season ended with June in addition to other handmaids freeing children from Gilead through sending them on a plane to Canada.
