Season 3 of ‘Bridgerton’ Begins Filming

Netflix has announced that its original series Bridgerton has begun production for season three, according to People. The series occurs during the Regency era in England and is centered around the Bridgerton family courting search for love.

The Netflix series is based on Julia Quinn’s collection of Bridgeton novels which each season is expected to use as a baseline. Season three of Bridgerton picks up with the love story of Colin Bridgerton, played by Luke Newton (The Lodge), and Penelope Featherington. According to People, she is portrayed by Nicola Coughlan (Derry Girls). Penelope leads a double life as Lady Whistledown, who will continue to serve as a present gossip source for the town in the new season.

However, the most significant addition to season three of Bridgerton is the lively newcomers to the town – Harry Dankworth (James Phoon; Harry Potter and the Cursed Child), Lord Debling (Sam Phillips; The Crown), and Marcus Anderson (Daniel Francis; Stay Close) according to People. A 30-second Youtube stream released by Netflix revealed the new cast additions, with the old and new cast holding up two fingers and raising a third. The clip then ends with Newton opening up a carriage with Coughlan, saying, “Bridgerton season 3 has officially begun filming.” This clip confirms the production of a third season while creating an inference of the actors that will be featured alongside the fact that the season will most likely be heavily focused on the next part of Quinn’s collection that involves the romantic relationship between Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington.

The newcomers to the series will draw in their current audience from previous work they have done, which increases promotion for the upcoming season. Combined with those invested in either the novels, the series, or both, this will continue to create buzz among the dedicated viewers to share a promotion for the third season of Bridgerton

According to People, one of the executive producers of the series, Chris Van Dusen (Grey’s Anatomy), told Entertainment Tonight that their goal is to focus on a different Bridgerton sibling in every season. Since there are eight siblings, there can be the inference that there will be eight series seasons if Netflix is willing to produce them. Additionally, there has been speculation that Netflix will drift from the novels since the Bridgerton sibling Colin’s love story isn’t explored until the fourth novel. However, this could be due to current viewers showing more investment in Penelope and Colin’s love story than others in the family. This tactic can help the series to continue to be renewed by Netflix for later seasons.

There is currently no release date for season three of Bridgerton; however, regarding previous seasons, it cannot be expected to premiere until at least 2023, according to People.
