SAG Award TV Winners a Repeat of Emmy Awards

Modern Family and Breaking Bad took top honors in their categories at this weekend’s SAG Awards.

According to Deadline, the SAG Awards were much like the Primetime Emmy Awards in September with Modern Family winning for an Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series and Breaking Bad winning for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.

“We would like to just thank our creator, Vince Gilligan… You know, he’s not the God, but he’s a god in our mind,” Bryan Cranston spoke on behalf of the cast. “He wrote a beautiful story for us to tell. We are at the mercy of your words. We are humbled by your talent. And thank you so much to the Screen Actors Guild, so much – oh my God! What a way to go out in style!”

Cranston also won a SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series. Last year he also walked away with two SAG Awards for best actor for Breaking Bad and best feature ensemble for Argo.

Modern Family also had two wins at the awards ceremony for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series and Ty Burrell winning Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series. Burrell’s win ended Alec Baldwin’s seven-year winning streak.

“We have to thank, of course, our amazing creators, and the writers that work so hard to make us sound funny. To our whole crew that make us look so pretty. To ABC/Fox for making us feel so comfortable,” Sofia Vergara spoke on behalf of the Modern Family cast. “To everybody that makes Modern Family, and of course, to our fans that… let us have the best job in the world.”

Even though 30 Rock was only seven seasons long, the show was still eligible for nominations an eighth year because of a SAG Awards rule quirk. 30 Rock received three SAG nominations and it was the first time 30 Rock walked away without a SAG Award.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus won for Best Female Actor in a Comedy Series for HBO’s Veep. During her acceptance speech Louis-Dreyfus forgets what awards show she has just received an award for. Michael Douglas cemented his awards season sweep as he won for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries for Behind The Candelabra.
