Nina Dobrev Returns to TV with Her New Comedy ‘Fam’ on CBS

When we think of actress Nina Dobrev, we immediately think of her work in the hit drama The Vampire Diaries. Recently, Dobrev made the switch over to comedy with her new show on CBS, Fam which is about an engaged woman named Clem who has found the perfect fiancé, Nick,  (Tone Bell) and amazing in-laws. Regarding her own family, Clem has lied to Nick about her family being dead. All of a sudden, her life goes from perfect to chaotic when her little sister Shannon (Odessa Adlon) moves in as a way to avoid their father Freddy (Gary Cole).

When Dobrev made the return to TV, she found it challenging having to adjust to a different type of format. One that she was not so familiar with.

“It was not on my radar at the moment, but the opportunity came up and I loved the character, I loved Tone Bell and the medium was different. I had never done a sitcom before and I love comedy, I love doing things that scare me,” she said. “This is in front of an audience of 300+ people, so it’s one of those things where it was scary and exciting and it got my heart rate up, so I knew I had to try it… It definitely makes me want to try theater now.”

Fans themselves are now seeing a new side of Dobrev, proving that the actress can be versatile. “I cringe when I watch the pilot, to be honest with you because I feel like I was very stiff and didn’t know what I was doing, and you can see the fear in my eyes, or at least I can,” Dobrev told The Hollywood Reporter. “But as the season goes on, I found my character, I found my groove, I started to feel more comfortable and I’m hopeful and excited that we’ll do a season two because I want to keep doing this.”

Catch Fam on Thursdays on CBS at 9:30/8:30c.
