Comedienne Wanda Sykes will headline two comedy specials which will debut on Oprah Winfrey’s network OWN July 13, as reported first by Deadline.
Wanda Sykes Presents Herlarious will feature all female comediennes performing stand-up, including Andi Smith, Gloria Bigelow, Marina Franklin, Tracey Ashley, Carmen Lynch and Dominique Witten. In addition to the stand-up material, there will be occasional short skits in which Sykes herself will appear.
Herlarious will be filmed at Chicago’s Harpo Studios, in the presence of a live studio audience. The Oprah Winfrey Show was filmed at Harpo Studios during its long run on air. Sykes, Page Hurwitz, and Jill Barancik will be executive producing the specials.
Sykes is no newcomer to producing, as she has created and produced two series herself. The Wanda Sykes Show, a late night talk show and Wanda At Large, a comedy series were both featured briefly on Fox.
Both installments of Herlarious will be one hour long and and air at 10 PM both July 13 and July 20. Sykes has been on three televised stand-up specials on Comedy Central and HBO.
