Netflix’s ‘Black Mirror’ Brings On Dan Trachtenberg To Direct An Episode

Netflix has hired 10 Cloverfield Lane director Dan Trachtenberg to direct an episode of Black Mirror‘s next season, Deadline reports.

Trachtenberg, probably most well known before 10 Cloverfield Lane for his short film Portal: No Escape based on the popular video game, seems like a perfect fit for the series. Considering the commercial ($105 million worldwide off a $15 million budget) and critical success (89% on Rotten Tomatoes) of the film, it’s interesting that Trachtenberg would take on a single episode of a TV show as his next job. Although it is a critically acclaimed Netflix show, and doing one episode of television is not that big of a commitment.

He joins a number of other intriguing, big names that have come on-board the Netflix series for upcoming episodes including Joe Wright, Bryce Dallas Howard and Alice Eve.

It isn’t too surprising that Netflix has been able to draw these people in to work on Black Mirror considering the series’ past alums like Jon Hamm, Hayley Atwell and Domhnall Gleeson.

Black Mirror, created by Charlie Brooker, has been extremely well-received so far, garnering an 8.8 on IMDb and a 94% certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. It has been nominated for multiple BAFTAs, and has won an international Emmy for best mini-series, a Peabody and a Rose d’Or from the Light Entertainment Festival.

The series, which originally aired on the UK’s Channel 4 for two seasons, is an anthology series in the same vain as The Twilight Zone. Each standalone episode of the science fiction series takes a darkly satirical look at modern society and the possible horrors that technology could bring.

No premiere date for the twelve episode season 3 has been revealed, with details about the upcoming season being sparse to say the least. There are only seven episode of the series as a whole so far, with seasons 1 and 2 each having three episodes along with the Christmas special starring Jon Hamm and Rafe Spall. It’s exciting that Netflix is commissioning almost twice as many episodes for season 3 than currently exist in the entire series.
