Netflix Orders Adult Animated Comedy ‘Inside Job’ from Shion Takeuchi

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix has ordered adult animated series Inside Job from showrunner and executive producer Shion Takeuchi (Gravity Falls). Takeuchi, graduate of Cal Arts, was previously recruited by Pixar to work in the Story Department, where she worked on Monsters University and Inside Out. She has also worked on other animated series including The Regular ShowLost in Oz and Netflix’s own Disenchantment.  According to Variety, Mike Moon, an adult animation leader at Netflix, said: “Shion represents the next generation of animation creators at Netflix and we are truly honored to be working with her on Inside Job. We can’t wait for adult animation fans around the world to fall in love with her singular brand of comedy and characters.”

According to Variety, the 20-episode series is described as “workplace comedy set in the shadow government, where every conspiracy theory — from the Illuminati to Reptoids — is true, and one woman struggles to keep the chaos under wraps.” “I’m beyond excited for the opportunity Netflix has given me to finally expose the inner workings of the deep state. To celebrate, I just ordered a fresh ball of red yarn for our conspiracy board,” said Takeuchi.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Inside Job will be produced at Netflix Animation in Hollywood, which opened in 2018 and currently houses about a dozen projects, including the series Maya and the Three, from Book of Life helmer Jorge Gutierrez; feature Jacob and the Sea Beast, from Big Hero Six director Chris Williams; children’s series Trash Truck, from creator and showrunner Max Keane; and interactive kids series Battle KittyGravity Falls creator Alex Hirsch will co-executive produce the show.

Takeuchi is repped by Verve and Sloss Eckhouse.
