Dearest gentle readers, deadline has announced that Netflix has officially greenlighted a brand new Bridgerton prequel series. This series will center Lady Violet Bridgerton, played by actress Ruth Gemmell (Home Fires, Cleaner).
This series is part of the exciting expansion of the Bridgerton universe that follows Lady Violet’s eight children and each of their relationships, with one child centered with each new season of the series.
This upcoming new series will explore a younger version of Lady Violet, showing the beginning and growth of the relationship with her now late husband, Viscount Edmund Bridgerton. The show will based off the novel Violet In Bloom, written by best selling author Julia Quinn (The Duke and I, The Viscount Who Loved Me). Netflix’s Bridgerton is based on Quinn’s Bridgerton book series.
The show will be a limited series, similar to the Queen Charlotte prequel that premiered back in 2023, starring actress India Amrteifio (The Rapture, Military Wives) as young Queen Charlotte, and actor Corey Mylchreest (My Oxford Year, Hostage) as young King George III.
The director and executive producer of the series is Tom Verica (American Dreams, Princess Protection Program), along with Shondaland’s Betsy Beers (Inventing Anna, For the People) as executive producer. The series will be produced by Shondaland.
Shonda Rhimes (Scandal, How to Get Away with Murder) is set to write, executive produce and co-showrun along with Nicholas Nardini (Scandal, Fucked Up in the Woods), who Rhimes also collaborated with, in Queen Charlotte. As Rhimes is credited to write the new series, she has not written a show since Grey’s Anatomy, which she also created. Netflix had a special studio built also for Shondaland, so the new series can be filmed in the UK.
The upcoming season five of the Bridgerton series has wrapped filming, and is currently in production in London. Season five will center Lady Francesca Bridgerton, played by Hannah Dodd (Enola Holmes 2, Find Me in Paris), and her relationship with Michaela Stirling, played by Masali Baduza (The Woman King, Slumber Party Massacre). The new season has no official premiere date set yet, but will release sometime in 2027.
The Bridgerton prequel series of Lady Violet does not have an official premiere date set or official title name yet.
