NBC’s ‘Superstore’ Releases Video of the Cast’s Final Table Read

A few weeks ago, Superstore fans were invited to take one last trip to the Ozark Highlands Cloud 9 to see where their favorite employees would end up after the workplace comedy’s six year run on NBC. While Cloud 9 closed its door’s permanently after the finale, “All Sales Final,” the Superstore team had one last bittersweet treat in store for loyal customers. A video of the cast’s final table read, conducted February 19, was released exclusively to Variety on Monday, later populating on the show’s social media pages.

Canceled in December, shortly after America Ferrera’s (Ugly Betty, The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants) delayed departure from the series, Superstore found itself in the middle of a COVID-19 focused season. The virus impacted stories both on-screen and behind the scenes, giving fans a unique opportunity to watch the “All Sales Final” table read, which was conducted over Zoom.

Producers Justin Spitzer (Superstore, The Office), Gabe Miller (Superstore, The Mindy Project) and Jonathan Green (Superstore, The Mindy Project) introduced the table read, which was interspersed with behind-the-scenes footage and clips from Superstore’s finale. “The heartwarming final episode has earned praise from fans and critics alike,” Screen Rant wrote of the series’ finale, which fans were able to revisit in a unique way with the table read “continuing the show’s legacy of hitting the perfect balance between realistic tales and hilarious, poignant moments.”

“These character’s lives will continue to go even after this story ends,” Superstore creator and producer Spritzer said in his introduction to the series’ final table read “but for me, for all of us, this is the end of their story” (The Finale Table Read). At the time the table read was recorded, one continuation of Superstore was already in development and NBC – Bo & Cheyenne – however, just last week, the network revealed that they will not be moving forward with the spin-off. “Another spin-off could emerge later,” Screen Rant remains optimistic “but it isn’t in the cards right now.”

For now, Cloud 9 customers can take home this unexpected bonus content from the cast and crew of Superstore and, hopefully, have a heavenly day.
