Fox’s ‘Duncanville’ Receives Early Third Season Renewal

Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation) and Mike and Julie Scully’s (The Simpsons) Fox animated comedy series Duncanville received an early season three renewal, according to The Hollywood ReporterNews of the renewal has come months prior to the premiere of the series’ second season, which is scheduled for May 23.

The comedy follows 15-year-old Duncan, voiced by Poehler, who possesses a spectacular imagination, in which he dreams of his adulthood containing money, freedom, cars, and girls; meanwhile, his reality contains being broke, babysitting, and riding everywhere with his mom. The comedy is scheduled to return for its second season with a two-episode debut on May 23 following the debut of animated comedy Housebroken.

“Watching Amy bring her incredible talent to Duncanville both on and off the screen these past two seasons has been an amazing experience,” Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn stated of the show’s renewal. “Duncanville’s entire cast and crew, led by two of television’s best showrunners in Mike and Julie, continue to deliver a show that represents everything fans expect from our animated series; and I’m looking forward to another season of Duncanville to relive my teen years, thanks to one of the most irreverent comedies on air,” via The Hollywood Reporter

The early renewal is a result of the length of time it takes for animated comedies to be produced. Thus far, Fox has taken risks with animated series, including the purchase of animation studio Bento Box and having renewed long-running comedies The SimpsonsFamily GuyBob’s Burgers, and The Great North. These renewals come as the network recently canceled the rookie animated comedy series Bless the Harts after its two-season run.

Duncanville also stars Ty Burrell (Modern Family), Riki Lindhome (Hell Baby), Wiz Khalifa (Fast and the Furious), Rashida Jones (Parks and Recreation), Joy Osmanski (Allen Gregory), Betsy Sodaro (Disjointed), Yassir Lester (Making History), and Zach Cherry (Most Dangerous Game). The comedy will return to Fox in late May, while the show’s first season can be watched on Hulu.
