NBC Sets ‘Superstore’ Finale Airdate for March 25

The sixth and final season of NBC’s workplace comedy Superstore is coming to a close. According to TVLine, the network announced the show’s finale will air Thursday, March 25 at 8/7c.

Superstore, which first aired in 2015, follows the employees of Cloud 9, a supersized megastore. For the finale, NBC has announced two back-to-back episodes will air on March 25 in an hour-long send off to the series. According to TVLine, there are still seven episodes left to air in the sixth season.

Many fans of the show are hopeful that Amy, played by America Ferrera, will return for the season finale. Amy, Superstore‘s main lead for much of its run, left the show in the second episode of the sixth season. Shortly after her departure, NBC announced in December 2020 that the show would end after the end of its sixth season, via TVLine. When asked about Ferrera’s potential return, Colton Dunn, who plays Garrett, said “I don’t know, man, but I’m sure that the writers are trying to cook up something so we can make sure that these characters’ stories finish the right way.” (TVLine)

Regardless of Amy’s potential cameo, the show’s six year run is something Dunn is proud of. “We did 100+ episodes, which is not something that you see these days,” he said. “We got to do an incredible show and tell a really great story, and we have such amazing fans who have been with us from Day 1… It has been an amazing ride.” (TVLine)

Since the announcement of the series’ end, fans have been consoled by the announcement of a spinoff series. The announced follow-up series will center on Bo and Cheyenne, played by Johnny Pemberton and Nichole Sakura respectively, via TVLine. So far, nothing more about the series has been announced.

Once the finale of Superstore airs in March, a new era will begin on NBC Thursdays. Starting April 1, Manifest will take over Superstore‘s 8 p.m. time slot to kick off a back-to-back drama lineup featuring Law & Order: SVU and the newest installment in the Law & Order franchise, Law & Order: Organized Crime.
