Marvel’s ‘Secret Invasion’ Series Announces Premiere Date at Disney+

The next Marvel Studios series is only a few months away. According to Comicbook, the espionage-styled Secret Invasionstarring Samuel L. Jackson’s (The Banker) Nick Fury, has been given a summer release for June 21, 2023. Originally set for early 2023, the action drama pairs Fury back with his Skrull counterpart Talos, played by Ben Mendelsohn (The Outsider), who first met in the prequel film, Captain Marvel. View the tweet below that captured the premiere date announced on Disney’s streaming service.

The series is set to follow Fury and Talos investigating a faction of Skrulls who have infiltrated Earth for a number of years. The ramifications of this shadow species living amongst humans in plain sight resemble the turn of events that impacted SHIELD’s fall under the hands of HYDRA. The series is set to have a darker tone than the previous shows and is to be a setup for the series-turned-feature film, Armor Wars.

Don Cheadle’s (Talk To Me) War Machine aka James Rhoades is set to headline Armor Wars which will be taking place directly following the events of Secret Invasion.

“[The MCU] It’s  bananas! And it’s very expansive.” Cheadle said via Comicbook. “And obviously, now that everyone can show up in everybody else’s story. I mean, I’m in Secret Invasion, so I’m in Sam [Jackson]’s show. There’s a part of that, that kicks off what happens in Armor Wars.”

Besides Jackson, Cheadle, and Mendelsohn, Secret Invasion is set to star Cobie Smulders (Stumptown), Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones), Kingsley Ben-Adair (One Night in Miami…), Martin Freeman (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever), Olivia Coleman (Great Expectations), Carmen Ejogo (True Detective), Killian Scott (Dublin Murders), and Christopher McDonald (Hacks). The series is directed by Ali Selim (The Looming Tower) and Thomas Bezucha (Let Him Go).

Created by Kyle Bradstreet (Mr. Robot), the special series event is based on a comic of the same name. Secret Invasion was an eight-issue limited release in 2008 by Brain Michael Bendis (Spider-Men) that witnessed the shapeshifting Skrulls secretly replace humans on Earth, leading to an all-out invasion.
